– Reality Hunger, by David Shields, A 4-6
Gonna like this book.
Finished Vortex last night.
I was super right. The rightest. Axis is a transition between the projects of Spin and Vortex.
So, Spin was all about how basically ordinary people react to a world which drastically changes without human control or input, how ordinary people react to a universe that appears to not even be capable of giving a shit about humanity.
Axis was a narrative transition, and served a bit like a break. ...

haggady asked: The question here is, is the professor going to be a hardass and ban all fantastical elements for strict realism (which is kind of ridiculous A) you're tossing out a big chunk of literature - Greek myth, Shakespeare, Poe B) All the best scifi is thinly veiled commentary on modern society.) OR is he saying he banning just obvious cliches like warlocks, elves, orcs because he doesn't want...

As I’m in the middle of writing a story about ghosts/monsters that may or may not be entirely in the protagonist’s head.
Does that count??? This is why I think genre distinctions are stupid ways to talk about anything but marketing.

On the Tractability of Reading and Consumption
Abstract We provide a rationale for why Ryan should send us more links to good articles, particularly in the domain of “cracked.com”. Totally Rational(e) Arguments Lemma 1: Cracked is good. They write well and entertain my face-holes. ∎ Lemma 2: Cracked produces content too rapidly to be consumed casually. Reading cracked via RSS is...
Just finished Axis.
While it continues the precedent of entertainment, and expands on a lot of the ideas touched upon in Spin, I’d have to borrow the words of another reviewer and say that it feels somewhat hollow in comparison.
It doesn’t feel like it has the same urgency to it.
It’s still well worth reading, I think. It’s a well-told story and it does have a lot of interesting things to...

God Admits Humans Not Most Impressive Creation →
‘It’s Mountains,’ Says Divine Being
“Mountains, above all else, are undoubtedly my most splendid creation,” God proclaimed. “Mountains are incredibly tall. They are also miles wide and are filled with millions upon millions of tons of earth. These facts alone make them objectively more impressive than human beings.”

They were going on about how the kid has “an agenda,” that the timing of his story coming out makes them hesitate to take it as seriously.
And I’m seriously wall-eyed about this reasoning. What, the guy got himself fired from a job he cares about so he could be in a documentary, and, what, get rich? Get famous? What’s the end goal here? Seems unlikely on several...

Rest of the world: Dang i sure like this character, his situation is so simiilar to mine, this makes me appreciate him/her in a really intimate manner, you really gotta appreciate the author for their skills.
Tumblr: Dang i sure like this character, his situation is so similar to my own... im probably the reincarnation of him fron another alternate parallel universe of zorg-xg 24v, the author probably caught a glimpse of my glory and had to write about me, why wouldnt he im a god, im the chosen one, its me, i wonder when sephi chan will come back to the shadow realm and marry me.
So, I'm reading Deadline.
It’s by Seanan McGuire, under the pseudonym Mira Grant. Just got done with Chapter Fifteen, which is pretty much entirely devoted to a good ol’ fashioned steamy sex scene.
What strikes me about this chapter is that it, like the rest of the book, is written from the perspective of a male character. By a female author.
And, wouldn’t you know it, it turns out that sexual...
